The Choice Of Websites To Exchange Reciprocal Links With

May 5th, 2010

One of the most vital parts of the Search Engine Optimization and link building is the reciprocal link building. Of the various forms of link building for Search Engine Optimization reciprocal links plays a vital role to increase web traffic on your website. To increase the visibility and to make other websites to point towards your site the reciprocal links really proves to be a great tool. It is a very simple process but there are several things that are very vital while choosing a website to link with. As the reciprocal links can increase the traffic on your website, similarly it can also result in unfruitful outcomes and even the results can be negative if there is any mistake in choosing your link partner. Therefore it is essential to be careful while choosing the website to link with.

The reciprocal links are kind of text or banner links to a site which also carries a similar text or banner link of your site in its pages. It is a kind of agreement between the two websites that they would maintain the link of the other on their respective sites. And in this way both the site would share the visitors of a site to visit the other site as a kind of reference through these links. The reciprocal links has its basis on trust as it is not possible for the webmasters to monitor regularly whether the other site is maintaining their link on their website. To monitor each time whether the other site is maintaining the link on their pages needs a good deal of time and patience. But the fact is that it is often noticed that many webmasters just forgets to maintain these links whenever there is a site up gradation. Therefore it is always better if possible to have a look on the sites that you are exchanging links with whether they are maintaining you link on their site or not.

However, the most notable thing about the reciprocal links is that whenever you choose a website to exchange links with you should first of all notice whether the contents of the site is relevant to the contents of your site as irrelevant sites can never be fruitful and you can gain nothing out of such link exchange. On the other hand there are some sites that hide these reciprocal links from the search engine spiders to show that they only have one way links. This thing you should follow very carefully and discard such websites that uses such means. Therefore be very much careful about the sites that you are going to exchange links with and avoid such websites that uses such unfair means as such link exchange can never be fruitful for your website.

However, some of the SEO experts believe that exchanging links with your competitors can be harmful for your website while on the other hand some of the experts believe that it is rather fruitful to exchange links with your competitors as for the Internet users, they never purchase things online until and unless they have gone through a number of websites on the thing they want to purchase. Thus by presenting your links on your competitor’s site you provide the internet users more options to choose from.

Reciprocal Linking Programs As A Means To Boost Search Engine Rankings Are Dead

May 5th, 2010

A. INTRODUCTION:

Are you a long-time webmaster who has been dutifully exchanging links with other webmasters for years? Have you noticed that over time less and less of your inbound links are showing up as Google backwards links? I know I have. Two of my websites have been in existence for over 5 years and as I now check back in my link partner records there are literally hundreds of inbound links to my sites still in existence on the links pages of various partner websites on the web. Sadly, no inbound link page rank credit has been given to my pages for these missing links regardless of the page rank of the originating page.

B. THE PROBLEM:

Conventional reciprocating links as a means to boost Google page rank have become of very little benefit to either party. Virtually every webmaster still clings to the belief that reciprocal linking work but all are wasting their valuable time in this largely fruitless enterprise.

C. WHY IS THIS?
It’s logical! Independent, inbound links originating from pages with content relevant to that of the link object pages are deemed by Google to be an indication of perceived value of the targeted website by the public. Google translates this perceived value into a higher page rank for the receiving page. However, reciprocal links are not an indication of value. Reciprocation indicates only the ability of the two webmasters involved to:

locate each other, and

trade links with each other.
It in no way indicates that anyone found either of the two sites to be interesting and/or valuable.
D. THE EXPLANATION:
Fact #1 – Google software designers and engineers are fully aware of the widespread practice of webmasters historically boosting their backward links numbers through reciprocal linking programs. Given the huge advances in artificial intelligence technology it was a simple matter for them to modify their spider algorithms to identify:

when two websites are exchanging links with each other, and

when an inbound link originates from a page that is in reality a links, resources, or link Partners page no matter what it is called.As a result, the old model is now on its deathbed and Google (and the others) give very little page rank credit to the receiver of a link:

identified as being part of a reciprocal link arrangement, or

originating from a links directory page.
In fact, in casually cruising the web examining websites, I notice that most links pages now have a Google Page Rank of only 0 or 1. Not all of them, of course, but most.Fact #2 – Google is on record as stating that the 2 main factors in determining the page rank of a page are:

fresh, original, useful and well-thought-out content on the page, and

the number of backward (inbound) links to the page originating from independent, contextual, relevant sources.
Fact #3 – Also, excessive duplication of content is now penalized and this includes links. A link that has previously appeared on the web over and over again, in some cases hundreds of times, is easily identified as not being original content and discounted.

Ask yourself how many times you have, as I have, traded links using the same anchor text, hyperlink target page and description again and again over the years. Now take a few minutes and determine how many of these links Google currently shows as valid backward links for your site. My two sites currently have literally hundreds of identical hyperlinks pointed at them but only a few are shown as backwards links by Google. Finally, the best of these inbound links are independent hyperlinks from articles sites and are not reciprocal.

E. THE SUCCESSFUL SOLUTION IS TWOFOLD:

1. Keyword-Rich Text – Webmasters must now write accurate, valuable, keyword-rich text for each page of each website such that the spiders will recognize the pages as having intrinsic public value and rate them highly. It’s not easy to evaluate and probably rewrite all of the pages of your websites to comply with new keyword requirements but the stakes are high and if you are in this for the long pull you must do it.
2. Links, But Not Reciprocal Links – Webmasters must arrange to have inbound links to each page of their websites that:

are not reciprocal,

that do not originate from pages that spiders could identify as links directories,

that do originate from pages that are thematically similar to the destination pages.
F. THE SECRET PROCESS:

Well, easier said than done, you say. The rewriting is daunting but easy to understand. But how does one go about complying with the linking requirements?
1. What should you not do:

Reciprocal linking? It’s just not worth the time! – Reciprocal links are probably not hurting your page rank so if other webmasters approach you to exchange links, why not. Just do not expect them to do much for your search engine rankings.

Inbound links from links directory pages? – If other webmasters are linked to you from their links directory page it is not something you can control and you are unlikely to be penalized for it. But again, do not expect much.
2. What should you do?
So now we know what does not work but where will all of these new inbound links come from?

Articles – Write interesting articles about your topic that contain one or more hyperlinks to your site and place them on internet sites that encourage author submissions. There are lots of them.

News Releases – You can also write news releases about your site and post them on news sites that are looking for just this sort of content. You are really limited only by your own imagination.

Crossing Editorial Exchanges – Another method is to establish a link crossing program that will comply with, and exploit, the latest search engine evaluation standards. It is basically a twist on reciprocal linking but with much more positive results. The steps are:

Find sites that you would ordinarily approach about exchanging reciprocal links. Most webmasters operate more than one website so suggest to those that do that each of you write a short, original article of approximately 100-150 words about one of the other’s two sites, but cross them. These articles should consist of: 1) A headline of about ten words in the form of a question having something to do with the topic of the website, 2) One paragraph of three medium length sentences that will answer the question, 3) An author credit.
The three sentences should each contain a keyword taken from the menu pages of the website it is about and each of these three keywords should be hyper-linked to the appropriate page. The author credit should contain a link to the index page.
Each webmaster should post the other’s article unaltered on the higher ranking of his two websites on a page satisfying the following conditions: 1) The main page of each donor site should have a Google Page Rank of at least 1, 2) The article should not be posted on a page called links, partner, resource, or any other synonymous term and, likewise, the URL of the posting page should not include these terms, 3) The article should not appear on a page that is, in reality, a link partners page no matter what it is called. In fact, it would be best if each article were posted to its own web page.

Next time, reverse your donor and recipient sites.
G. THE RESULT:

Conceptually what happens is that one of each pair of sites receives a strong, contextual, relevant hyperlink from the other of each of the pairs and neither link is reciprocal. Very highly rated by Google. Over time this will have a highly positive effect on each site’s SE ranking.

This is a bit more complex and time consuming than completing a one link trade but, given the current low value of incoming reciprocal links, it will not take very many exchanges to have a significant positive effect on page rank.

H. A FINAL COMMENT:

Take the time to figure it out and get with the program! The concept is simple, it’s easy to implement, and there should be no shortage of willing participants. Just contact all of your previous reciprocal link partners. The hard part will be for webmasters to intellectually accept and debunk in their own minds the myth of the value in conventional reciprocal linking.

The Most Popular Reciprocal Linking Strategies

May 5th, 2010

A mutual link between any two objects is known as reciprocal link. The term is generally used to link two sites in order to ensure proper mutual traffic. An inbound link plays a very crucial role to get the ranks of the search engines, and hence webmasters and the Link building Services prefer this for their websites. Many webmasters use these reciprocal links to construct their inbound links.

Apart from the two ways mutual exchanged links there is a three way exchanged link, which works in a cyclic way. Say, for example, site 1 links with site 2, site 2 links with site 3 and site 3 again links with site1. You can even opt for multiple linking techniques too as many of the Link building Services provides this option.

Though the exchanged links are a good way to gain a significant position in the search engine page ranking, many a times can actually accrue penalties for the website. But that doesn’t mean these linking are not effective at all. If you are planning a proper strategy and then doing the thing, you can always be on the profitable side.

Make the link exchange in a proper way – While you are using the mutual exchanged link, you must be aware of the advantages and disadvantages as well as the dos and don’ts of the technique. A proper know-how about the technique can help you to achieve a good response in the search engine page ranking.

Maneuver your linking tactics – Even if you have a sound knowledge of the link exchange game, there should be a proper planning before you proceed. Make sure you are making a correct planning so that to avoid any kind of messes. A proper linking planning can actually help you to get a good ranking.

Do not flood your site with links – Many search engines often discard those sites, which are flooded with links. Many a times, the links which are used are not of much relevance. If your site is full of irrelevant links, the search engines may deny your ranking. Many a times, the site visitor also never likes the links provided in the content’s page.

Use relevant links – Try to use content-relevant or site-relevant reciprocal links in your site. Irrelevant links may hamper your site’s ranking. Moreover, using relevant links can actually help your site to achieve visitors, and can make the linking technique successful.

Check the content of your site and find out if the content is at par with quality or not – The quantity of site-visitor depends on the quality content of your site. If your site has below-standard content, you cannot expect the links alone to work for your site’s rank-achieving. The content of the site is as important as the quality of the links provided, as the site- visitor wants the quality content first and then the links.

Check the quality of the site-links you have provided in your site. Even if you have provided quality content and a decent number of links, the quality of the site links play a crucial role in making the site popular. Before you link a particular site, you should be aware of the quality of links you are providing. If the qualities of the site-links are not at par with your site’s quality, you may lose visitors for your site

Reciprocal Linking Strategy

May 5th, 2010

If you want to get serious about driving more traffic to your website and improving your search engine rankings you need to develop a linking strategy. There are three primary linking strategies:

1. Reciprocal Linking
2. Purchasing text links
3. Employing a link finding service

This month’s issue of BizAtomic Advisor focuses on Reciprocal Linking – How it can help. When a trusted site links to yours, people follow that recommendation.

Reciprocal link means your website links to another website and that website links back to you. Search engines use link popularity to rank websites. Exchanging reciprocal links with other sites will build a great link directory that will motivate visitors to bookmark your website to get access to your link directory.

One of the factors search engine’s use to determine your relevancy to a search term is the number of websites linking to your website. This is an effective way to increase your search engine rankings.

Three key success factors for a reciprocal linking strategy are:

1. Quality of links should outweigh quantity
2. Link partners must relate to your site content
3. Partners should link to you from pages listing as few links as possible

Linking is what the web is all about. It helps you move from one document to another and from site to site while maintaining your focus on a particular subject. The ideal situation is to have one way links from related sites without you pointing back to them. However, you would have to have a lot of valuable information, tips, tools, articles, resources, etc. in order to motivate people to link to your website. Unfortunately most sites don’t fall into this category and reciprocal linking is a requirement.

Step 1 – Get people to want to link to your website. Generating quality inbound links to your website requires a systematic approach and hard work. But the payoff is worth it. To begin with you must have good content on your website. Step one is to analyze the value of your content in relation to competitors. You will also need a page of outbound links on your website that visitors will find valuable.

Step 2 -Research websites that are worth linking to and that will bring relevant traffic to you. You need to identify the portals, directories, news sites, ezines, blogs, and other information sources specific to your industry. You can let your fingers do the walking across the keyboard or you can purchase one of the many software tools on the market designed to locate relevant sites. They also help collect email addresses and even prepare letters requesting that a site add a link to your site. Without making any recommendations you may want to look into the following tools:

* Arelis Reciprocal Link Solution
* Zeus Internet Marketing Robot
* Linking 101 Linking Management Script
* Duncan Carver’s Link Management System
* Hot Links SQL V2.3
* LinkMaster Pro
* Links Manager
* Links4Trade
* PowerLinks.com

Make sure you at least visit the sites these tools generate. However, the best way to build long-term link popularity is to offer good content and features providing real value to your visitors. People will discover your website.

Google is a great help with your research because it ensure your partners are properly indexed. Look for sites closely related to you in terms of theme and keywords. Google’s ranking algorithm takes into account each link’s importance along with other factors like the proximity of your search keywords in the documents. In other words, it’s not just about the number of sites that link to a given page, but also the importance of those sites (measured by the links to each of them). Google has given a name to its ranking algorithm for determining a web page’s importance; it’s called PageRank™.

Human based directories like Yahoo and the Open Directory project have a lot of influence over search results. List your site in the correct category with a good description.

Next make sure you are linked to and from topic specific and niche directory websites. These are sites that provide information that is an exact match for what you provide.

Don’t forget partners and vendors from your business. Since you already have a relationship you are more likely to be able to request and receive a link from their website.

Step 3 – Implementing your strategy. Like any marketing campaign you need a plan.

* Set business benefit objectives for your Linking strategy. Think about what you are trying to achieve and write it down on paper.
* Develop a content plan for populating your website with valuable content.
* Set linking policies, pages, and linking code you can give to link partners for your site.
* Monitor the progress of your linking strategy so that you can see what results have been achieved and adapt or tweak what you are doing to improve results.
* Benchmark your site’s link popularity against competitors

A Reciprocal Linking Program will require that you manage the following:

1.The name of the site

2.The URL

3.The name and email address of the person who runs the site

4.The date you contact the person who runs the site and the date he or she responds

5.The resulting deal (Some will say yes, some will say no, others will not reply at all, others will want a link back from you, some may want money for links, some will be out of town and take weeks to reply, etc.)

6.The status of the deal

7.Verifying that the link is in place

8.Checking the site periodically for the link (Yes, some folks swap links and then pull yours for odd reasons.)

Remember the most important benefit of a link exchange is the traffic resulting directly from these links. Search engines are highly unpredictable. They keep changing their algorithms every now and then. Your site is on the top 10 results today but it may not be so tomorrow. Of course, you don’t want to exclude search engine optimization but your main concern should be getting traffic from direct links.

What Are Options For Reciprocal Linking

May 5th, 2010

First, let’s face the fact. Reciprocal linking no longer ranks high on must-do list for most search specialists. The reasons are manifold. Chief among them are as under:

Search engines are known not to favor ‘plain reciprocal linking’ between sites because they do not enhance the value of the links in their eyes. Does this mean SEs penalize sites that resort to directory-style reciprocal linking? May be not, but there is no value addition either.
There has been too much abuse of the concept of reciprocal linking, and it is still not uncommon to find reciprocal links among completely disparate sites. Clearly, it is like waving red flags to search engines.
As a result of (1) and (2), most webmasters nowadays do not agree for plain reciprocal linking any longer.

However, there have been instances where website owners take recourse to ‘turnkey’ reciprocal linking. What happens is that site A links to B, B to C, C to D, and lastly D to A. Since no 2 sites link directly with each other, there’s a belief that this works.

Nothing can be farther from truth. It is possible for search engines to easily ferret out such covert understanding, and in fact are not favored either.

With that as backdrop, are there no way for reciprocal linking that can be made to work in your favor? The answer is ‘yes’, and the trick too is rather simple, but to make it work needs some planning and hard work. Let’s look at the following example. Say it’s an article about content writing, and the paragraph below is a part of that.

Fact is, if you need to offer a product or service, you have to write a powerful ad that can convince your customers. Writing an effective sales copy is not anyone’s cup of tea. Which means unless you hire an expert who has experience in relevant [link starts]content writing[link ends], you stand less and less chance to succeed in your objective.

Here the phrase ‘content writing’ is used as an anchor text to provide link pointing to a site of your choice. Now if this site too links back to your site through an anchor text of your choice in an article like above, it will be a classic case of reciprocal linking without rubbing SEs the wrong way. Since there is some amount of value addition at either end, the SEs are not likely to object.

However, though the trick appears simple enough, it is equally, if not more, hard to put it in practice. After all, how many reciprocal links can you generate this way? It’s not only that you need to write contents relevant to your site that can refer to your potential link-partners’ sites, they also need to do same. Not many would care for that trouble.

But, are not there exceptions? Yes, John Chow for one. He offers to link to your blog if you review his blog (John Chow Dot Com). Yet, all said and done, anchor-text reciprocal linking is a tough call indeed.

Top Five Reasons Why Reciprocal Link Requests Are Turned Down

May 5th, 2010

Reciprocal linking is one of the accepted methods adopted by webmasters to build traffic, increase link popularity and improve page rank. It is a known fact that in recent times search engines have begun to place more importance to one-way inbound link and consider it to be superior to a reciprocal link. It is also known that search engines do appreciate reciprocal links if the links are from quality theme related websites.

Webmasters receive regular requests for reciprocal link exchange either by e-mail or through their websites where provision is made for the submission of requests for reciprocal link exchange. Why are most requests rejected to the utter disappointment and dismay of webmasters of new websites anxious to increase their link popularity and page rank?

Some of the major reasons for the refusal to reciprocate a link exchange request can be attributed to:

1. When a reciprocal link exchange request is received, the obvious thing the webmaster will do is to visit the website making a request and try to identify what this website is all about. If the request is from a website with an irrelevant theme, the chances are the request will be turned down. The reason is that search engines will not give him any credit for linking with an irrelevant site and he cannot expect any targeted traffic from such a website either.

2. Poor content of your website is another major reason for the rejection of your reciprocal link exchange request. Websites with good quality theme related content are seldom rejected. In fact webmasters appreciate reciprocal link exchange requests from non competitive theme related websites since these sites will provide their own visitors with useful website experience and also receive targeted traffic.

3. If your website is with a PR zero or with a low Page Rank and if you request a link exchange with a high PR site, unfortunately your request will most probably be turned down. The reason being that the high PR site will not benefit by linking with your site. One saving grace here is that if you have excellent theme related content and indicate that you are growing fast some websites will link to you hoping that you will achieve high PR rank soon.

4. Most webmasters want to know whether your link directory is easily accessible to your website visitors. Hiding it in a maze of other information will not help. Your link page should be only two clicks away from your home page. A webmaster with a good link directory set-up will not be interested in complying with your request if your link directory is not easily accessible.

5. Having several dozens of links in each page is another reason for the rejection of a link request. If you wish to succeed in your request then you should ensure that you categorize the link directory and have not more than twenty five links to a page.

It should now be obvious why most requests for reciprocal link exchange are turned down. Having good quality unique content is the best way to start your reciprocal link campaign and succeed in your efforts.
