Whether you are online just to blog and have some fun or online to make money online free there is one thing you should remember and that is to know exactly what your competition is doing in their internet marketing campaign. If you get stuck and begin to run out of unique IP addresses to gain backlinks from you can always go to Yahoo’s site explorer and input your competitions URL to find new blogs that they have commented from and are getting good links or article directories for the articles you write. You will on occasion run into websites where your competition has worked out a link exchange if the website is closely related to your website then it will not be a problem to email the webmaster and ask them if they would like to do an exchange. What you don’t want to do when you are running out of ideas to get new links is nothing this will let your competition destroy you in the SERPs (search engine results pages).

Of course checking your competition is not the only way to find new ways and places to increase links you can also visit an internet marketing forum, but I have found if you are not checking your competition then you will be missing out. Checking your competition does not mean only checking where their backlinks are coming from you should also be looking at a few other things. The first is how big is your competitions website. Google and other search engines give preference to websites that they feel has the largest wealth of information and will help visitors the most. So if your competition has 100,000 pages then you should try to grow your website so it is at least comparable 10,000 would be a minimum. Another thing you can check is the websites search engine optimization. If you would like to do this go to your competitor and then click view and then source. This will bring up the HTML which is where you will find their meta tags. Check and see if their meta tags are the exact keywords you want to rank well for or if they at least used the words somewhere in the title or description.

After checking all the html the next thing you can check is the keyword density of the keywords you want to rank well for on your competitors site. If they are going extremely high over 10% then don’t try to match anytime a keyword reaches a density over 7 or 8 Google will usually penalize the website for keyword stuffing and you will quickly lose that competitor. You can also run a few Google checks to see who is building links for the keyword that you would like to rank well for. Go to Google.com and type in: inanchor:”Keywords” and the websites that come up will be the websites who have built the most links with whatever keywords you check for. This will be your true competition and should be the websites that you are checking. Another search you can do is the intitle:”keywords” to see what websites have put your keywords in their title. If you run these checks you should know how much work it is going to take if you want to rank well for the keywords of your choice.
